Lace & Steel (2nd edition), softback roleplaying game, by Paul Kidd
“Lace & Steel was written to explore my favourite fantasy genre, and open it up as a properly detailed game environment which could be enjoyed by others.
The game deals with a theme which has never been properly handled: swashbuckling romantic fantasy. The visual imagery of early seventeenth century Europe has been firmly lodged within my brain for years (a BA in 17th century English history diudn’t help). The classical adventure books and films will usually draw on stock images of the 17th and 18th centuries – plumed hats and rapiers are now synonymous with roguery, romance and dashing adventure.”
