Tiger Eye (also known as “Tiger’s Eye”) is a chatoyant gemstone that is usually a metamorphic rock with a golden to red-brown colour and a silky lustre. The blue variety is sometimes known as “Hawk’s Eye”. Unlike Red Tiger Eye (which is actually a product of heat-treating gold Tiger Eye), the blue colour of Blue Tiger Eye is a naturally occurring phenomenon. As members of the quartz group, Tiger Eye and Hawk Eye gain their silky, lustrous appearance from the parallel intergrowth of quartz crystals and altered amphibole fibres that have mostly turned into limonite.”
